In temperate areas our perennial garden mixture can be planted into the frost-free ground from mid-March to the end of October. Planting the mixture in the summer is possible, if the soil is watered sufficiently.
The most important precondition for the growth of the perennial garden mixture is a good preparation of the soil. Prior to planting, the planting areas should be cleared from goutweed and permanent weeds before thorough subsoil tillage. It is also recommended to plant the mixture directly on the day of delivery. If this is not possible, the plant crates can be temporarily stored for up to a maximum of two days. They should be opened and placed in a protected, semi-shadowed area. Take care to water daily and sufficiently. For the hot summer months with high temperatures and strong sun radiation we recommend to choose the early morning hours or the evenings for planting and watering.
- In order to minimize your efforts of planting, the plants have been premixed and packed in plant crates in our nursery. At delivery please check the goods for potential damages caused during carriage. In case of any defect or damage observed, please contact us immediately and send us convincing footage showing the damaged material. Straight away after receiving the plants, please also water them thoroughly.
- We deliver the mixtures in numbered plant crates. Take these crates out one after another according to the numbering – crate Mix 1, Mix 2, Mix 3, Mix 4 and then start again. Put out the plant pots completely on the planting area. For the optimal effect of the final flower bed please keep to the arrangement and order of the plants as prepared in the boxes. Avoid the planting of other plants on the respective area, as this would lead to the destruction of the perennial mixture system. Please stick to the plant density of eight perennials per square meter which complies with a planting distance of 30 – 35 cm. After having distributed all the perennials, take the plants out of the pots only when you are truly ready for planting them into the soil.
- The perennials should be placed with a planting shovel into the prepared planting wholes. Then press the soil firmly from all sides. Take care of the plants already planted and minimize stepping on the planting area. Water thoroughly after planting (20l/m²) to ensure fast rooting of the plants and strong soil contact.
Finally, mineral mulching with gravel or stone chippings (granulation 8/16) in a layer of five centimetres height has proven to be successful. It can effectively suppress the accumulation of weeds. Already a few days after planting the layer can be added with a shovel.
The figure shows the uniform distribution of the plants from the plant crate. With 24 plants 3m² are filled. This complies with the plant density of eight plants/m² recommended by us and a planting distance of 30 – 35 cm.
